What is FIBCs??
- A flexible intermediate bulk container (FIBC) or bulk bag, or jumbo bag, is an industrial container made of flexible fabric that is designed for storing and transporting dry, free flow materials, such as sand, fertilizer, and granules of plastic.
- FIBCs / Bulk Bags / Jumbo Bags are commonly made of thick woven polypropylene. It can carry 1000 kg or 2000 kg, while the weight of the bag itself can be as light as 1 - 2kg.
- Transporting and loading of FIBC / Bulk Bag / Jumbo Bag is done on either pallets or by lifting it from the loops. Bags are made with either one, two or four lifting loops.
- Emptying is made easy by a special opening in the bottom such as a discharge spout, of which there are several options, or by simply cutting it open.
Safe Handling of FIBCs / Bulk Bag / Jumbo Bag
DO & DON’T of Safe Handling
- Do observe the handling instructions on the label
- Do check that the discharge spout is closed before filling
- Do ensure the lifting loops should be vertical and not twisted
- Do prevent the FIBC from being damaged by the wheels of fork lift
- Don't exceed the Safe Working Load under any circumstances
- Don't allow personnel under a suspended FIBC
- Don't allow the FIBC to project over the side of a vehicle or pallet
- Don't tilt the mast of the forklift forward
- Don't drag the FIBC
- Don't withdraw forklift tines prior receiving all load on the lifting devices
